Hennepin County Public Works Facility Wins AIA Minnesota 25 Year Award
in News
The Alliiance designed Hennepin County Public Works Facility received the 25 Year Award by AIA Minnesota. This prestigious award celebrates projects that have withstood the test of time through exceptional architecture.
Completed in 1998, the Hennepin County Public Works Facility was a groundbreaking project—redefining maintenance facilities as high-performing and environmentally friendly. Nestled atop a natural plateau, the 242,000 square foot facility blends seamlessly with the landscape. Sustainable strategies, that were groundbreaking at the time, were thoughtfully incorporated into the design to reduce energy and water consumption and enhance occupant well-being. The project shaped future building projects, and eventually informed the State of Minnesota’s B3 Sustainable Building Guidelines, established in 2004.
In 2018, Hennepin County re-engaged Alliiance to renovate 25,000 square feet of office and meeting space to meet current workspace needs. Overall, the facility looks and functions much as it did a quarter century ago—an example of how forward-thinking design can stand the test of time.
Project partners included Dunham Associates, Barton-Aschman, S-P Testing, Enebak Construction Company, and Knutson Construction.
