Having outgrown their existing license and service center, Washington County wanted a service building that people would look forward to visiting. The new Central Service and License Center will be modern, flexible, and light-filled, modeling new ways to deliver public-facing services to customers in a welcoming, equitable, sustainable, and comfortable environment.

The new facility will house multiple functions, including:

  • License and Passport Center
  • Property Records and Taxpayer Services
  • Career Force Center with Career Lab
  • Public Health Clinic
  • Community Corrections Sentence to Serve Classroom
  • Administrative Workstations, Offices, and Support Space

For ease of access, the facility is located adjacent to the Gold Line bus rapid transit station, a line that runs from St. Paul to Woodbury.

Washington County’s identity is deeply connected to nature, reflected in the project’s creation of high-quality natural spaces and a modern building that incorporates regional materials like wood, steel, and masonry. A key decision was to use mass timber construction, which aligns with the county’s nature-centric values by offering both aesthetic appeal and sustainability benefits.
