
Celebrating the Retirement of Tom Hysell, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C

After an incredible career spanning over 38 years, Alliiance Principal, Tom Hysell, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, is retiring. Tom has led a storied career defined by major collaborations and meaningful contributions to Alliiance and the architectural profession at large.
Tom led some of the firm’s most high-profile, complex projects with integrity and precision. Some of his notable projects include the United States Courthouse and Federal Building in Minneapolis; Minneapolis Central Library; University of Minnesota TCF Bank Stadium; Target Center Renovation; and multiple projects at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Over the past decade, Tom has focused on managing airport projects nationally and internationally from Papua New Guinea to Spokane, Washington.
Tom has also helped shape the architectural profession through extensive leadership roles in AIA. He served as AIA Minnesota’s president, treasurer, and continues to contribute on several committees. He also served as president of AIA Minneapolis and has been a member of both the AIA Minnesota and the AIA Minneapolis Board of Directors. Additionally, he is currently serving a ten-year term on the National AIA Documents Committee and serving a three-year term as Minnesota’s representative for the AIA Strategic Council.
Tom brings a unique depth to collaboration, uniting design excellence with business strategy and communication. His ability to foster collaboration, mentor teams, and lead across disciplines has made him a catalyst for successful partnerships and projects. In recognition of his national impact on the profession and his dedication to fostering architectural excellence and collaboration, Tom was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in 2019.
