Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Terminal 1 Operational Improvements Program Named 2025 Finance & Commerce Top Project
in News
Finance & Commerce Top Projects are selected by an independent panel of judges and recognized for innovation, collaboration, complexity, and sustainability.
The $600 million multi-year, multi-phase Operational Improvement Program at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Terminal 1 repositioned the curbside façade fifteen feet outward to accommodate relocated vertical circulation, reimagined the baggage claim experience to world class standards, modernized TSA security screening checkpoints, and leveraged data driven analysis to significantly enhance operational efficiency.
Together, these enhancements across the arrivals and departures halls are transforming the passenger experience while strengthening operations—reducing congestion, increasing capacity, and optimizing overall passenger flow. Intuitive wayfinding and universal design enhancements ensure the terminal meets the diverse needs of all passengers.
The project required extensive coordination and complex phasing to deliver seamless improvements while maintaining uninterrupted operations with minimal impact to travelers. Working in close partnership with the Metropolitan Airports Commission, Alliiance led planning and design of the project, in collaboration with numerous project partners: Kraus-Anderson, Meyer Borgman Johnson, Michaud Cooley Erickson, Inspec, Schuler Shook, TKDA, Kimley-Horn, 4RM+ULA, Thornton Tomasetti, BNP, VDA, Entro Communications, Field Environmental, Terracon, Via Partnership, Idibri, and Jen Lewin Studio.
With more than 36 million travelers passing through MSP annually, the Terminal 1 Operational Improvements Program is helping create a smoother, more enjoyable journey for every passenger.
