Barkley Regional Airport (PAH)

The Barkley Regional Airport terminal is a symbol of transformation. This $14.1 million, 27,000 sf facility reimagines the airport as a “front porch” for Western Kentucky, embodying the region’s values of hospitality, community pride, and connection to nature. Inspired by Paducah’s UNESCO Creative Cities designation, the terminal features commissioned art and abstracted quilting patterns, echoing the city’s vibrant artistic spirit. Limestone masonry and exposed timber framing blend historic charm with modern design, reflecting the community’s forward-thinking vision.

The functional and flexible design of the terminal offers spacious ticketing halls and day-lit security checkpoints that accommodate future growth. Boarding areas offer stunning airfield views and passenger boarding bridge-ready expansion. Passenger well-being technologies such as UV air sanitation, automatic sun shading devices, and toxin-free materials provide a comfortable and healthy environment.

The iconic front porch welcomes passengers with a covered sidewalk while improving energy performance via solar shading. Landscaped plaza spaces offer outdoor gathering areas—extending the terminal’s warm embrace. When necessary, the flexible outdoor protected areas can function as an extension of the ticketing lobby.

Intimate interior and exterior seating areas are reminiscent of living rooms which ensure comfort for all. Inclusive and accessible features cater to passengers of all abilities.

This new terminal is a testament to community-driven vision. As a gateway to the region, this project exemplifies how small terminals can have big impacts for passengers and the community. The outcome is a truly unique experience reflecting the spirit of Paducah and Western Kentucky.
