Heritage Village Park is in the midst of multiple types of transportation: to the east, barge traffic on the Mississippi River, to the west, the Mississippi River Regional Trail, railroad, and vehicular traffic. New structures celebrate the railroad history of the park, in form and detail, with an interpretation of a roundhouse, covered platform, and railroad utility structures.
The park location along the regional trail is highly visible, drawing families to the play areas. The design of the structures and interpretive signage help foster a strong connection to the park through it’s history.
In addition to the experiences at the park, the nearby Rock Island Swing Bridge is connected via the Regional Trail as a pier, enabling visitors to have a rich experience walking out over the river.
